Folklórny súbor Železiar funguje v Košiciach od roku 1964. Dlhodobo sa venuje tanečnej a hudobnej tradícii východného Slovenska, najmä regiónom Abova, Zemplína, Spiša a Šariša. Zaujímajú nás nielen kroky a piesne, ale aj súvislosti – to, ako folklór vznikal, ako sa menil a čo nám môže povedať dnes.
Vo svojom najnovšom programe sa zameriava aj na folklór národnostných menšín východného Slovenska – Maďarov, Goralov, Rómov a Rusínov. S rešpektom a citom spracúva ich kultúrne prejavy, ktoré sú neoddeliteľnou súčasťou mozaiky tohto regiónu.
Súbor je dnes priestorom pre ľudí, ktorých folklór oslovuje – bez ohľadu na to, či s ním vyrastali, alebo ho objavili až neskôr. Spájame výskum, umeleckú prácu a komunitný život.

The Železiar Folklore Ensemble has been active in Košice since 1964. For decades, it has been dedicated to preserving the dance and music traditions of eastern Slovakia, especially those of the Abov, Zemplín, Spiš, and Šariš regions. What interests us is not only the steps and songs, but also the broader context—how folklore came into being, how it has evolved, and what it can tell us today.
In its most recent program, the ensemble also focuses on the folklore of ethnic minorities living in eastern Slovakia—Hungarians, Gorals, Roma, and Ruthenians. Their cultural expressions are approached with deep respect and sensitivity, recognizing them as an essential part of the region’s cultural mosaic.
Today, Železiar is a space for people drawn to folklore—whether they grew up with it or discovered it later in life. We bring together research, artistic expression, and community spirit.
